Signs of Spiritual Maturity

Ephesians 4:13-15

“Till we all come to the unity of the Faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, UNTO A PERFECT MAN, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children,…but speaking the truth in love, MAY GROW UP into Him in ALL THINGS, which is the head, even Christ.”

Esteem Earthly Things Lightly– Hebrews 11:24-26 says, “By faith Moses…refused to be called the son of Pharaohs daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ GREATER riches than the treasures in Egypt.”

When Moses grew up and became a man, he found out that he wasn’t really Pharaoh’s daughter’s son. He found out that his parents were really Jews. He chose ill treatment with God’s people when he found out who he really was. Think about the fact that, he REFUSED the things of this world; all the riches that were laid in his lap; he REFUSED them. In the world he was in line for the Throne. He had honor, wealth, AND prestige. Moses had ALL THAT THE WORLD HAD TO OFFER. Yet he esteemed the reproach of Christ GREATER RICHES than the treasures in Egypt.

One of the characteristic’s of growing up spiritually is to esteem earthly things LIGHTLY. You cannot put EARTHLY things ABOVE spiritual things and grow spiritually.

You must die to your flesh and the SENSOR AND PRAISE OF MEN.

1 Corinthians 4:3-4 says, “But as for me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human court; in fact, I do not even examine myself. V.4 For I am conscious of NOTHIHNG against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the One who EXAMINES ME is the Lord.”

Paul had grown in grace to such an extent that he sought ONLY to commend himself to God. He was NOT INFLUENCED by what others thought of him. He did not get in bondage to ANYONE. It was not a carnal independence but a godly dignity.

An immature Christian can get puffed up or feel like someone has taking advantage them or ignoring them because they weren’t acknowledged for something, but a more mature Christian has grown past alot of these things as they have sought God’s help to grow in whatever area of their lives they feel they need God to help them in.

Our Goal is to grow up in the Faith and Please God

When we are baby Christians we’re self-conscious, and ever-conscious of what others think about us, and can be tossed about with emotions or opinions of others.

The MATURE believer is GOD-CONSCIOUS, and EVER conscious of what GOD’S WORD says about him and to him, because he is able to testify with Paul, “It is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or man’s judgement, ”

He was free to voice his convictions, but He wasn’t conceited or arrogant and inflated with pride. He was not touchy or fretful or resentful. He took no account of evil done to him and paid no attention to a suffered wrong.

The body Christ will mature and move forward into the FULLNESS of Christ as you keep your FOCUS on Jesus and trust Him to help you grow up into Him.
